Die Baureihe 101 (UIC 91-80-6 101) bildete den Beginn einer
neuen Lok-Ära - die Modul-Bauweise. Neu war auch, dass nicht mehr die Deutsche
Bundesbahn / Deutsche Reichsbahn die Entwicklung neuer Lokbaureihen
veranlasste, sondern die Lokomotivindustrie neue Lokomotiven entwickelt und den
Bahnen anbietet. Kundenwünsche werden dabei natürlich berücksichtigt.
Mit der Baureihe 101 begann bei der DBAG auch die
Komplett-Werbung bei Lokomotiven.
